I can truly say I've tried everything but selling a kidney to get my music on the radio. As an indie R&B artist at times it feels virtually impossible. I've been told I need to "slide" the DJs a lil something under the table in order to get airplay. The only thing I'm sliding under the table is a chair. I know major labels and big named artists monopolize the airwaves but I know there are many talented indie artists with great music as well. So, in my latest effort to get airplay I have created a petition. Yup, I'm going "old school" on them. The idea is to get as many signatures as possible then present it to the MDs and PDs of commercial radio. Maybe it will work....maybe not. But, nothing beats a failure but a try!

As I sit here typing this my eyes are involuntarily crossing. At this moment I am functioning on 3.5 hours of sleep. Yesterday, I arrived at the studio @ 11:45am to mix and master my upcoming album after sitting in a traffic jam for 2.5 hours. I was as excited at a kid on Christmas Eve. Finally, I have reached the end of my recording journey! The session went very well. Almost too well as I walked out of the door with the master copy of Still Shining in my hand at 3am!!! As I rode home in the middle of the morning instead of being all giddy and half dead as I expected to be I found myself in a reflective state of mind. I thought about how 10 years ago I would have never thought in a million years I would be where I am today and how far I've progressed in my life in spite of the things that have happened in my life and what some folks thought I would be or wouldn't be for that matter. I thought about how I used to be on welfare and now I have my own indie label and an awesome 9 to 5. I thought about how at one point my kids and I were homeless and now we live in a brand new home. I remembered when I felt like I didn't have a future and now I am living my dreams. I learned a long time ago how merciful God is and how he steps in to save us in the nick of time....EVERYTIME. It would be so easy to use the old cliché and say "I believed in myself and that's why everything worked out". That's not true. There were times I didn't believe in myself and I wanted to just throw my hands up in the air and yell "I GIVE UP" but I couldn't. I had two beautiful little people who needed me and loved me, my son and my daughter. So, I kept pushing on for them. Sometimes we find our strength in the most odd places and/or people. You are probably wondering why I am sharing such personal things publicly. I almost feel like I need to. The purpose of my upcoming album, Still Shining is to send a positive message of hope, happiness, love, and perseverance in the face of adversity. I wanted to share my story to possibly encourage someone else who may be feeling like giving up to hang in there. Or maybe there is someone who is in a situation that feels hopeless. Sometimes it helps just to know you are not the "only one". I hope my music can instill a positive message or simply be a ray of light in a "dark" situation. If I can achieve that, even for one person, I will then consider myself a success.

I am so excited and pleased to tell you that Still Shining is 90% complete! All the songs have been tracked and I am headed back to the studio next Thursday to spend the entire day mixing and mastering the album. I'm so proud of how the album has turned out so far. My only prayer is that you will love this album just as much as I do. I'm so excited that I think I will start accepting pre-orders May 16th rather than June 20th.
